SpaceScan09 #28: Southside Stalkers and Mógil
Categories: Features • Iceland • Pop • Rock • Sweden

It’s summer in the Northern hemisphere and this SpaceScan presents a Swedish duo whose jingly 1960s inspired pop fits the sunny season perfectly, and a half Icelandic, half Belgian quartet whose mix of classical, jazz and bits of rock does not. The first have named themselves Southside Stalkers, the second Mógil.
Mógil (ISL)
Classical, jazz and a little rock join forces in an unlikely, but very effective alliance in the realm of half Icelandic, half Belgian quartet Mógil, who released their debut album ‘Ró’ in September last year. They would probably have fitted a fall or winter SpaceScan better, but then again: Haunting beauty is needed every season.

Altogether more befitting a summer SpaceScan is this Swedish duo. Southside Stalkers aka Sparrow and Indy added us on MySpace recently and this is a classic case of being utterly charmed at first listen. It’s sunny and jingly 1960s (psychedelic) pop with a delightfully fun touch – and impossible not to love.

WHO DO YOU THINK EVERYBODY SHOULD HEAR?
Although we spend a lot of time out there, we can’t claim to have heard every band on MySpace, so please feel free to recommend bands – Scandinavian, of course – you think everybody deserve to hear. We do reserve the right not to feature your band(s), but we guarantee to check them out. Drop links to: spacescan (a) allscandinavian.com
