Light In Your Life: Light In Your Life
Categories: Albums • Rock • Sweden

The somber indierock delivered by Sweden’s Light In Your Life on this eponymous full length debut stands in agonizing contrast to their name. Despair and melancholy rule and at best you’ll find only a fragile flicker of hope below in the mournful lyrics, often touring the not-so-great sides of love.
Depressing, eh… However, the Uppsala-based quintet is really a quite uplifting musical experience. They execute their low to mid-tempo songs with great skill, the guitar-work of Erik Nyberg and Oskar Bernövall particularly pleasing, and above all singer Johann Bernövall (yes, he’s Oskar’s brother) adds volumes to the experience with his emotional delivery.
Light In Your Life have their expression down cold, which is generally a good thing. It is, however, also accountable for the biggest weakness of their debut, as it does become a little monotone at length. But this doesn’t change the fact that these Swedes are off to a good start, and if you like to dig around the darker corners of your soul or are just looking for bleak, guitar-based indierock LIYL is definitely a safe bet.
