Mew: No More Stories…
Categories: Albums • Denmark • Rock

I never thought the term “accessible” could apply to experimental rock trio Mew, but apart from the insanely long (and poetic) title the Danes’ fifth effort is the most immediately accessible they have ever been and perhaps ever will be, while still keeping in line with their trademark bombastic expression.
Compared to its four year old and brilliant predecessor, ‘And The Glass Handed Kites’, light has replaced dark and haunting pop hooks are plenty, but to claim that Mew have gone all happy pop campers on us would be stretching it; there’s still much work to be done by the listener.
The full album title – ’No More Stories Are Told Today / I’m Sorry They Washed Away / No More Stories The World Is Grey / I’m Tired Let’s Wash Away’ – is one giveaway, the multilayered and complex compositions showing the trio’s continued disdain of traditional song structure 14 others. However, this time around we’re to a greater extend invited in to the trio’s universe instead of having to break down all walls and doors ourselves.
Produced by Rich Costey (Muse, Interpol, Glasvegas etc) and Mew – Jonas Bjerre (guitar/vocal), Silas Graae (drums), Bo Madsen (guitar) – ‘No More Stories…’ is instantly appealing, yet eclectic and challenging, and, to put it mildly, another truly magnificent achievement.
