On the Meadow with Shotgun Crackers and Maja Alderin
Categories: Features • Pop • Rock • Sweden

Continuing our monthly trips around the Swedish meadow with our guide Pär Berglund from the great blog Meadow Music, September is all about the ace indiepop representatives Shotgun Crackers and stand out singer Maja Alderin, who really have touched and moved Mr. Berglund. As usual you can get the music as free downloads by kind permission of the artists.
I’d like to think of Shotgun Crackers’ music as irresistible. That they shoot out some kind of childish joy energy that we all need. At the same time I think that they are perfect representatives for Swedish indiepop. With their roots in the Swedish nineties indie scene with Brainpool and other bands, combined with their sense of pop melodies, simplicity and party atmosphere, they define some important characteristics of Swedish indie.
They have released a couple of EP’s, ‘Visual Randomization’ and ‘Khpptsch’, and are now working on their first full length album. And, according to my information it also looks like Shotgun Crackers (photo) will be playing live in the UK soon and maybe also in the US. You heard it first here on allscandinavian.com. Check out ‘Runner Runner’ now, more songs on their MySpace and if you like what you hear then download ‘Visual Randomization’ here and ‘Khpptsch’ here.

There are a lot of great artists on the female singer/songwriter scene and to stand out is difficult. One that definitely reaches straight into my heart is Maja Alderin. There’s something in her voice that just left me enthralled the first time I heard her. As I wrote then: “Like a little mountain brook with the clearest water, sometimes floating still and sometimes purl, striding through small waterfalls; that’s how I feel when I listen to Maja Alderin’s voice.” I think she’s beautiful.
