SpaceScan08 #1: The Wong Boys, Budam and So Called Plan
Categories: Denmark • Electronica • Faroe Islands • Features • Finland • Rock

For years cruising MySpace has been an integral part of every music enthusiast’s life, and it’s no different for ALL SCANDINAVIAN. This is the first of many guided tours designed to bring you new and interesting musical experiences, so jump onboard. First up are Finnish So Called Plan, Faroese Budam and Danish duo The Wong Boys.
So Called Plan (SF)
So Called Plan is a postpunk/emorock band from Finland who will release their second album on September 3. The album was supposed to be out last year, but frontman Eero ran into a throat infection which delayed everything. Normally, emo is to be handled with precautions, but So Called Plan – especially on new track ‘December’ – manages to be melancholic without being whiny, and melodic without sounding like Busted and Sum 41… And that counts for quite a bit. Budam (FO) (Photo)
He is listed as an influence, Tom Waits, and Faroese singer, storyteller, performer and actor Budam (aka Búi Dam) would never have been able to deny this source of inspiration had he tried. The 29-year old released the album ‘Stories of Angels, Devils, Lovers and Murderers’ earlier this year from which you can enjoy (and I’m sure you will) three tracks and a video, not least the brilliant Balkan rambling in ‘Snakecharmer’ and grooooooovin’ blues ‘Clap Hands’ (the video). The Wong Boys (DK)
One of the most interesting musical minds in Denmark right now, Frank Ziyanak (who will have released five albums in a year by Feb 2009), has teamed up with Stefan Kvamm (brother of lead singer in Nephew, Simon Kvamm) to create nothing short of a club-banging electronica extravaganza. About a year ago obvious hit ‘Git Ur Fuk On’ started circulating among DJ’s and since then The Wong Boys have been the talk of the town. It’s dark, aggressive, funky, lyrically usually just south of your bellybutton… and just fukin’ great! Eponymous debut is slated for release October 13, and it is destined to smack up dance floors all over the world. (PK)

WHO DO YOU THINK EVERYBODY SHOULD HEAR?
Although we spend a lot of time out there, we can’t claim to have heard every band on MySpace, so please feel free to recommend bands – Scandinavian, of course – you think everybody deserve to hear. We do reserve the right not to feature your band(s), but we guarantee to check them out. Drop MySpace-links to: spacescan@allscandinavian.com
