SpaceScan09 #41: Crystal Rain and Dust
Categories: Features • Finland • Iceland • Metal

It’s Friday, almost beer-o’clock and the editor-in-chief’s taken some well-deserved time off, which has left the metal editor alone in the office and up to no good. So here’s a healthy SpaceScan-dose of dirty hard rock from Finland and Iceland to kick-start your weekend, courtesy of Crystal Rain and Dust respectively.
Crystal Rain (SF)
Crystal Rain hail from Hel(l)sinki, Finland. They have a couple of demos under their leather belts but still haven’t reached the big breakthrough. Which they deserve, because their Paradise Lost/Type O Negative/Sentenced-ish goth rock is really cool. What’s even more cool is the fact that they have a female bass player, which you don’t see that often. Which is a shame, as they look way better in leather pants than the male ones… Hey, what’s wrong with being sexy?!

Dust (ISL) (Photo)
Dust describe their music as a mix of metal, rock and powerpop. That’s pretty spot on. It’s aggressive, yet grandiose and the choruses are instantly singalong-able (if we pretend that “singalong-able” is an actual word). In fact, Dust is kind of similar to bands like Nickelback – only much less annoying – and might make it big in USA. They are touring California and Nevada right now supporting their second album ‘Radio Killer’.

WHO DO YOU THINK EVERYBODY SHOULD HEAR?
Although we spend a lot of time out there, we can’t claim to have heard every band on MySpace, so please feel free to recommend bands – Scandinavian, of course – you think everybody deserve to hear. We do reserve the right not to feature your band(s), but we guarantee to check them out. Drop links to: spacescan (a) allscandinavian.com
