ALL SCANDINAVIAN celebrates the weekend with something new, something old, something borrowed and something blue… Okay, there isn’t really anything borrowed. Or anything that is blue per se. But there is great new folk rock from When City Sleeps and old(er), majestic metal from Tiamat. You know how it works by now: Listen, read, enjoy – and then click.

Sometimes describing music with words is like dancing a color or telling someone what water taste like. Danish folk rock outfit When City Sleeps is one of those occasions. They only have one track on their MySpace, ‘The Way You Shine’, a track that is very mellow, very quiet and very low key. So low key that I’m not sure all the band members are awake during the recording. So it’s boring, right? Well, no. Although it’s hard to put a finger on, the song has a certain je ne sais quoi (pardon my French) that makes it really, really good. Or, maybe it’s just me. Check it out yourself.

Tiamat (SE)
Normally this space is more or less reserved for new and upcoming acts. I will have to admit that Swedish Tiamat is not really a new band. They are not even new-ish. They do, however, kick ass and since I have somehow failed to mention them before (and the editor-in-chief is still out and about, so I can do whatever I want) I’ll hail Tiamat now. The band formed in 1989 as death metal outfit. Later on they dabbled with electronica, dub and trip hop elements(!) before settling for an epic experimental metal sound that is spectacularly awesome. Tiamat is touring South America in November and if you are anywhere near at the time, I strongly recommend that you go see them.
