Bodebrixen: Bodebrixen
Categories: Albums • Denmark • Pop

When I first let Bodebrixen hit my ears, it was definitely not “jazz” that sprung to my mind, but jazz is nonetheless this duo’s musical background. Here, however, Aske Bode and Andreas Brixen have thrown all elitist bulls***t out the window and gone shamelessly (indie-)pop.
Produced by Bodebrixen and mixed by Frederik Thaae (aka A Kid Hereafter) their debut album sports a heartfelt love for the kind of naïve pop the Swedes have excelled in for years, lavished in horns, bongos, glockenspiel, synths and whatever else they have felt might work. And work it does indeed, as Bode (keys, programing etc) and Brixen (vocal, drums etc) have a great gift for rule number one in the Pop Rule Book: Instant hum-along choruses.
Love is of course a theme lyrically (rule number two), but Bodebrixen also have songs about starting your own business (‘Own Company’), Aske’s childhood (‘Keychain’) plus a tribute to filmmaker Jim Jarmusch (‘Dead Man’). And then they ram all four hands into a beehive as they take sides in the question of Lennon vs. McCartney in ‘What Lennon Said’ (“Rather be a prize optimist than an intellectual pessimist,” as the duo says).
Considering that quote Bodebrixen makes sense. If you prefer to walk through life grumpy this is not for you, ‘cause there’s a good chance that you will be smitten by their catchy, happy-go-lucky indie-pop.
