Are We Brothers?: Are We Brothers?
Categories: Albums • Denmark • Rock

Danish quartet Are We Brothers? are in personnel urban funksters The Gypsies minus two, in music something very different. The brainchild of Lasse Boman, Are We Brothers? was formed in November 2007 and just months later they topped the Danish airplay chart with one of their first ever songs, ‘Come Around’ – a prime pop/rock testament to what AWB? are all about.
Backed by bassist and brother in arms, Shaka Loveless (vocals in Gypsies), guitarist Benjamin Kissi (vocals in Gypsies) and Birk Nevel (drums here and there), singer/guitarist Lasse Boman (also guitar in Gypsies) fronts this outfit which is duly celebrated as one of the very best live-acts in Denmark these years. Something they proved with a brilliant show at this years SPOT Festival, a show that had labels in USA, Germany and France line up for a signature.
You get why, when songs like aforementioned ‘Come Around’, classic blues ‘Put Your Money Back In The Bank’, ‘Calm Down’ and ‘Echo’ hit you. Channeling inspiration from the likes of The Clash, Katrina And The Waves (‘Walking On Sunshine’ can almost be heard in the background of ‘Rough Night’) and The Beatles into an impressive number of (potential) hits on this eponymous debut – not least due to Lasse Boman’s flair for hook-lines – Are We Brothers? deserves a prominent position in iPods everywhere.
To quote Springfield’s Mr. Burns – although I seriously doubt these guys will ever make their way to his stereo – this is just “excellent…”
