SpaceScan09 #46: Royal Republic and Knút
Categories: Faroe Islands • Features • Rock • Sweden

For some reason I’m seemingly big on quartets these days. Last week’s SpaceScan presented two and this Friday the series continue with another two. Both do rock, but where Royal Republic from Sweden dish out swaggering punk rock with instant hit appeal, Faroese Knút offer more contemplative rock in 1970s psychedelic robes. Hope you like it and have a grand weekend.

From Malmö, Sweden, hails this quartet dishing out swaggering rock with references to California punk (got a little The Offspring ‘Pretty Fly (For A White Guy)’ guitars going on in their ‘All Because Of You’, one of two tracks on MySpace) and that Swedish knack for the catchy. Royal Republic won the Swedish Emergenza Festival in 2008 and have signed a record deal with Bonnier Amigo Music Group. No info on album or release date, though…

Knút (FO)
Low-key rock in 1970s psychedelic robes is what Faroese quartet Knút is about. A vessel for songwriter and singer Knút Háberg Eysturstein, backed by Høgni Lisberg (Hogni), Jens L. Thomsen (ORKA) and Bogi á Lakjuni, Knút released a second effort, ‘The Desert Holds A Flower’, this summer, which he is streaming song by song on MySpace (he’s five songs in right now).

WHO DO YOU THINK EVERYBODY SHOULD HEAR?
Although we spend a lot of time out there, we can’t claim to have heard every band on MySpace, so please feel free to recommend bands – Scandinavian, of course – you think everybody deserve to hear. We do reserve the right not to feature your band(s), but we guarantee to check them out. Drop links to: spacescan (a) allscandinavian.com
