SpaceScan08 #4: Vomit Supreme and Shooting John
Categories: Denmark • Features • Rock • Sweden

Fall is upon us and this weeks SpaceScan features something for both those who embrace the bleak season and those who fight it. The first need to wrap themselves around perfectly melancholic Americana six-piece Shooting John (Sweden), fronted by one of the best male singers around. The latter will find new soulmates in Danish experimental rock trio Vomit Supreme, who extends a big heartfelt “F**k you!” to pretty much everything and everybody.

They’re not just a clever name, they are definitely on to something. Vomit Supreme is a side project for Mattis Jakobsen and Malte Hill of Straight To Your Face and Rock Hard Power Spray guitarist Frederik Valentin. The three piece band with three lead singers(!) play dark experimental rock with lots of attitude – pay special attention to the cool track ‘Versus Love’. Vomit Supreme will start recording their debut album later this year. (TB)

With a fine-tuned sense of melancholy this Malmö six-piece roam the borders of Americana, neo-folk and pop/rock, lead by the compellingly dark voice of excellent singer Peder Gravlund. Last year they released the acclaimed second album ’Happiness +/-’ which was supported by an extensive tour of the US and Scandinavia. This fall Shooting John released the album in Germany, Austria and Switzerland and a European tour are in the works. (PK)
