Kå: Himlens Kant Når Helt Herud
Categories: Albums • Denmark • Rock

‘Himlens Kant Når Helt Herud’, Danish quartet Kå’s sophomore effort, is a wonderfully weird little record, celebrating a healthy mix of synthrock, pop and folk with a few other genres thrown in for good measure. Whenever you think you have the album figured out new songs emerge that aren’t quite what you expected – but still pretty good.
Singer and main songwriter Katrine Villadsen’s Lykke Li/PJ Harvey-ish voice is fragile yet quite penetrating at times, the songs are melancholic but still kind of upbeat. Which doesn’t really make sense, I know. You’ll just have to hear it for yourself.
Even though their lyrics are in Danish I’m sure you will be able to enjoy their songs even if Danish sounds like gibberish to you. You might want to start out with the single ‘Skrivestop’ (in the player below) – a cool synthpop song with a ridiculously simple but awfully catchy keyboard riff and Villadsen at her best.
By the way; the single’s title means “writer’s block”, which incidentally is something yours truly has been haunted by for the last couple of days, hence this pretty late review of an album that was released several days ago. Oh well, it’s here and Kå’s followup to 2005s acclaimed debut, ‘Sammenbidt Blidt’, has definitely been worth the wait. In every sense…
