Q&A: Kå – Coffee, cake and elevators
Categories: Denmark • Features • Rock

The other day we gave you the lowdown on Danish synthrock quartet Kå’s excellent sophomore effort ‘Himlens Kant Når Helt Herud’. Today their singer and main songwriter Katrine Villadsen answers the four big questions on Life, the Universe and Everything, also known as the Who, Where, What and Why Q&A interview…
Who?
“Kå: Four musicians who only want the best for you (which we think is listening to synthrock in Danish…), and most of the time for each other too (which usually includes playing synthrock in Danish).”
Where?
“Copenhagen, Denmark. Where everyone go everywhere by bike and where that metropolis feel never really occurs because you always run into your friends on the street. The recent rise in shootings does add a little to it, though.”
What?
“The very middle of the mainstream when aimed at by a drunk driver. That’s metaphorically speaking, of course… We hardly ever drink when rehearsing. There is even a no smoking rule in the rehearsing room and we like to take long breaks with cake and coffee (rock’n'roll!) Or you could say: If PJ Harvey and Emmerson, Lake and Palmer went to a concert with Bloc Party together and then started playing Danish schlagers. That would probably sound like Kå.”
Why?
“Because we want the hype, the fame and the glamour that comes with doing the hip thing. And also because we like to discuss each chord for hours, put the result on an album and release it for you to enjoy – and then rearrange it all in order to see if it can be played in an elevator. Yup, our new video, showing us playing the song ‘Europaelevator’ live in an elevator, is now available on YouTube and our websites.”
