SpaceScan09 #49: The Politics and Bedroom Eyes
Categories: Denmark • Features • Pop • Rock • Sweden

It’s Friday and time for the ALL SCANDINAVIAN SpaceScan, this week presenting Danish gung-ho electro punk-funk and marvelously wistful Swedish power-pop. The first comes from trio The Politics, the latter from one man act Bedroom Eyes aka Jonas Jonsson, and like any other Friday all you have to do is check them out, perhaps let us know what you think below and then have a splendid weekend.
The Politics (DK)
Formerly known as Rubberhead Banditz Danish trio The Politics (David Byrne, Søren Hansen aka Sean H and Poul Amaliel) were one of four winners in national Danish radio contest Karrierekanonen (in English, The Career Cannon) this summer. Gung-ho electro punk-funk with excellent hooks and societal commentary in the lyrics is their game, and they play it very well. Abroad attention is increasing and January 20 they kick off a month long UK tour. All dates and places – plus two more songs – is found on their MySpace.

With the two demo EPs ‘Embrace In Stereo EP’ (2006) and ‘Valentine Vacancy EP’ (2007) Swedish one man act Bedroom Eyes aka Jonas Jonsson has earned impressive attention and acclaim in music media around the world. I, on the other hand, have managed to miss him completely. Until now. But better late than never, as it’s often said, and in this wistful power-pop case it’s as true as true can get. The (inexplicably) still unsigned pop talent extraordinaire has almost finished a full length debut which I from now on will look very much forward to. Who knew woe could be this marvelous and easy to dance to?

WHO DO YOU THINK EVERYBODY SHOULD HEAR?
Although we spend a lot of time out there, we can’t claim to have heard every band on MySpace, so please feel free to recommend bands – Scandinavian, of course – you think everybody deserve to hear. We do reserve the right not to feature your band(s), but we guarantee to check them out. Drop links to: spacescan (a) allscandinavian.com
