Lindstrøm & Christabelle: Real Life Is No Cool
Categories: Albums • Electronica • Norway

They’ve worked together since 2001, italo ‘n space disco whiz Hans-Peter Lindstrøm and Christabelle Silje Isabelle Birgitta Sandoo, but this is their first full length. Which Lindstrøm in fact began working on before his critically acclaimed 2008 solo album ‘Where You Go I Go Too’. That just happened to be finished first, and when success was his he returned to the studio to complete ‘Real Life Is No Cool’.
Real life may not be cool to Lindstrøm & Christabelle, although the first is said to lead a very real and quiet family life, but their musical counter to it certainly is. Almost too cool at times, with a few tracks going pretty much nowhere (not even a little jump on the spot). But mainly it’s oozing sex, not least because of Christabelle (also known as Solale) both gently caressing and making flat-out love to the detailed and juicy disco beats.
Reminiscing Giorgio Moroder/Donna Summer era disco, ‘Real Life Is No Cool’ kicks off with nauseating, reversed vocal samples before a brilliant beat and captivating spoken-word vocal make ‘Looking For What’ a quintessential track. Other highlights are groovy ‘Lovesick’, bedside gem ‘Music In My Mind’, funky Soul Train moment ‘Baby Can’t Stop’ and just-low-not-really-high album closer ‘High & Low’.
