SpaceScan10 #3: Lena Anderssen and Leaves
Categories: Faroe Islands • Features • Iceland • Pop • Rock

The weekend is steadily approaching, but before we leave you to do whatever it is you do on weekends we suggest you check out our SpaceScan, this week presenting two quite established artists in the Icelandic powerpop quintet Leaves and Faroese singer/songwriter Lena Anderssen. Read, listen and then continue to their respective MySpace-pages if you like what you hear – and then have a splendid weekend.
Leaves (ISL) (Photo)
Last year this Icelandic quintet released their third album, ‘We Are Shadows’, from which they are streaming three songs on MySpace (plus some from 2002 debut ‘Breathe’). It’s superb powerpop from somewhere in between Muse and Fleet Foxes, and if you like the sound of Leaves you can pick up a free copy of the title track from WAS here.

Lena Anderssen (FO)
Faroese/Canadian singer/songwriter Lena Anderssen does pop – and does it very well. Two albums in, latest ‘Let Your Scars Dance’ from 2007, she’s garnered solid international attention and won quite a few awards, among them Female Vocalist Of The Year at the 2009 Just Plain Folks Awards which seems totally fair (without knowing any of the other nominees). A new album is in the works, but there is no info on release date, so until then we’ll have to make do with the 10 songs streaming on MySpace.

WHO DO YOU THINK EVERYBODY SHOULD HEAR?
Although we spend a lot of time out there, we can’t claim to have heard every band on MySpace, so please feel free to recommend bands – Scandinavian, of course – you think everybody deserve to hear. We do reserve the right not to feature your band(s), but we guarantee to check them out. Drop links to: spacescan (a) allscandinavian.com
