The Wong Boys: The Wong Boys
Categories: Albums • Denmark • Electronica

Hype has been building steadily around this Danish electro-punk duo since brilliant dance floor anthem ‘Get Ur Fuk On’ started circulating among trendsetting DJ’s and blogs last year, and now their debut album – one of the more awaited Danish releases this year – is finally ready to face its destiny. And it should be a grand one.
Building on 1970s New York electro-punks Suicide, Stefan Kvamm (also Betofon) and Frank Ziyanak (also Death To Frank Ziyanak, Gezus Chrystler, Simply Frank Ziyanak) delivers a string of great, gritty club-bangers and dark downbeat techno, fused with the raw energy of punk-rock and Ziyanak’s cool, passive-aggressive nonchalance when spitting out his lyrics.
Highlights on ‘The Wong Boys’ count funky first single ‘Get Ur Fuk On’ and duet ‘Wurld Peace’, featuring the album’s only feminine touch, Anna, and the nice-to-know chorus: “For every boy in this fucked up world / For every boy there’s a fucked up girl / For every girl there’s a fucked up boy / For every boy there’s a girl in this world”. In atmospheric ‘Stick Up It Kid’, murky ‘Hole Ye Horzies’ and spellbinding ‘Peasant Stare’ Kvamm and Ziyanak hit most right notes, before salacious ‘TFD (Nasty Girls)’ brings the excellent laptop-punk proceedings to a halt.
In an interview with Danish music magazine Gaffa Frank Ziyanak said that The Wong Boys are music for anybody but middle-aged women. If they like it, something’s very wrong. I doubt he’s got anything to fear…
