Ginger Ninja: Wicked Map
Categories: Albums • Denmark • Pop

They have had massive expectations to their debut hanging over their heads pretty much since day one, Danish quartet Ginger Ninja, not least due to solid airplay on national radio and acclaimed live shows on SPOT and Roskilde Festival among others last year. Now it’s here, titled ‘Wicked Map’, and luckily they have decided not to choke on expectations.
Produced by Fridolin Nordsø (The Fashion, The William Blakes and many more) it’s confident, well written and executed, embracing the 1980s and sporting references to Tears For Fears, Nik Kershaw, Mew (only less bombastic) while throwing in a little Depeche Mode for good measure, and reaching amazing highs in instant hit ‘Sunshine’, electro-rocking ‘Bone Will Break Metal’.
A few songs, including opener ‘Crying Shame’ and ‘Out Of Sight, Out Of Mind’, are too soapy to stick, but that doesn’t change the fact that Ginger Ninja know how to cut great pop music and they should be able to chart anywhere pop fans gather. And they’ll probably break a few hearts on their way…
