Back in January young Swedish quintet Good Morning June (all 19) were one half of a Friday SpaceScan exciting with their melodic rock, represented then by the awesome song ‘Forbidden Sleep’. Yesterday their eponymous EP, which they released themselves April 20, at long last reached me and it has in no way diminished my excitement.

Touching on Radiohead and throwing a bit of shoegaze in the mix, the – for some reason apparently still unsigned – five guys deliver inch-thick Scandinavian melancholy driven forward by elegant, at times raucous but always tuneful guitars, and elevated by the (have to repeat myself here) amazing lead singer Emil Erstrand, who adds unshakeable vulnerability and passion to Good Morning June’s supreme whole.
