SpaceScan08 #10: Dimma and Omoreka
Categories: Denmark • Features • Iceland • Metal • Rock

This week ALL SCANDINAVIANs SpaceScan takes you around Iceland and a quintet mixing old school metal, rock and Icelandic folk, and a new Danish powerpop band with a debut album ready for release, but who’s still a short week away from their live debut. Also, U2 and Bono play supporting roles.
Dimma (ISL)
It is very hard, if not impossible to describe Icelandic Dimma’s music and do it justice. Frontman Ingó Geirdal sings like a pissed off blend between Eddie Vedder and Bono. He is accompanied by female vocalist Hjalti Ó Ágústsson who sings like… an angel, really. Beneath those two is a dark mix of old school metal, rock and Icelandic folk music. In short they are weird and amazing. Does that make sense? Probably not, but do check them out. If you don’t get the songs the first time give them a second and third chance, because once you get into Dimma, you are in for an experience.
Omoreka (DK) (Photo)
Omoreka is a Danish rock/powerpop band with a very U2’ish sound (U2 and Bono seems to be the theme of this SpaceScan). The band is the brainchild of singer and main songwriter Peter Omoreka and is soon to release their debut album. However, the band has curiously still to play their debut concert, which will take place November 5 when Omoreka supports 3 Doors Down in Copenhagen. Now, warming up for 3 Doors Down isn’t necessarily something to brag about, but is does say a lot about Omoreka’s unquestionable hit potential.

WHO DO YOU THINK EVERYBODY SHOULD HEAR?
Although we spend a lot of time out there, we can’t claim to have heard every band on MySpace, so please feel free to recommend bands – Scandinavian, of course – you think everybody deserve to hear. We do reserve the right not to feature your band(s), but we guarantee to check them out. Drop MySpace-links to: spacescan@allscandinavian.com
