SpaceScan10 #19: VED and Kirsten & Marie
Categories: Denmark • Electronica • Features • Pop • Sweden

Relentlessly continuing our Tour de MySpace this Friday we present two acts looking back in different ways. First up is Malmö-based one-man act VED aka Mattias Nihlén, who dabble in what’s perhaps best described as organic electronica with a 60s psychedelic touch, and he’s followed by 18 year-old Danish twins Kirsten & Marie, who excite with their excellent take on the folk tradition.
VED (SE)
Hailing from Malmö, Sweden, one-man band VED aka Mattias Nihlén have me tripping with his experimental, 60s psychedelic and organic electronica, mixing ambient, folk and progressive rock in awesome instrumentals screaming to be used in movie soundtracks (which, incidentally, Nihlén has done quite a few of). Absolutely brilliant!

18 year-old twins Kirsten & Marie Nyhus Janssen excite with Simon & Garfunkel-esque folk songs revolving around Kirsten’s acoustic guitar and the pair’s sweet, captivating vocals. Monday they released their eponymous, three song debut EP on new label Tambourhinoceros (run by Oh No Ono members Aske Zidore and Kristoffer Rom) from which the excellent first single ‘My Dear’ is taken.

WHO DO YOU THINK EVERYBODY SHOULD HEAR?
Although we spend a lot of time out there, we can’t claim to have heard every band on MySpace, so please feel free to recommend bands – Scandinavian, of course – you think everybody deserve to hear. We do reserve the right not to feature your band(s), but we guarantee to check them out. Drop links to: spacescan (a) allscandinavian.com
