SpaceScan10 #20: Lights On The Highway and Axial Tilt
Categories: Features • Iceland • Norway • Rock

Friday and time for our twentieth SpaceScan this year, today serving you two different shots of rock courtesy of Norwegian one-man band Axial Tilt aka the mellow side of metal-head Fredrik Refling and Icelandic quintet Lights On The Highway. Read, listen, maybe leave a comment and then have a grand weekend.
Axial Tilt (NO)
Normally he spends most of his musical time as singer and guitarist in Norwegian black metal outfit Blodsgard, but Fredrik Refling also has, as he puts it, “a more mellow side” which he exercises as Axial Tilt. Some of it does sound like work in progress, but there’s definitely something there witnessed by songs like ‘Remember – Forget’, ‘2 A.M.’ and ‘Shapes’ (in the player).

Lights On The Highway (ISL) (Photo)
Icelandic quintet Lights On The Highway released their self-titled debut in 2005, but it took them another four years to follow it up with ‘Amanita Muscaria’, from which they’re streaming four songs on MySpace (plus one from the debut). Their game is rock with a scent of America, effective hooks and little drops of psychedelia – and it’s great.

WHO DO YOU THINK EVERYBODY SHOULD HEAR?
Although we spend a lot of time out there, we can’t claim to have heard every band on MySpace, so please feel free to recommend bands – Scandinavian, of course – you think everybody deserve to hear. We do reserve the right not to feature your band(s), but we guarantee to check them out. Drop links to: spacescan (a) allscandinavian.com
