Hailing from Stockholm the collective of artists and musicians hiding behind the moniker Originalljudet released this self titled debut in Sweden in March. Their name (and hence the album title) translates to “original sound” or “odd sound”, which are both safe to apply to the album’s nine, mostly downbeat instrumentals which elegantly interchange through the total running time of just under half an hour.

Armed with an impressive variety of instruments and touching on an almost as wide variety of genres, Originalljudet playfully mix waltz, polka, gypsy folk and jazz in a tapestry of melancholic moods and sounds from early twentieth century Parisian brothels and Berlin back alley bars (obviously I have no clue if that’s how it sounded then and in those places, but it would’ve been appropriate).
