SpaceScan10 #24: Of Monsters & Men and Wolves Like Us
Categories: Features • Iceland • Norway • Rock

The SpaceScan selected two this week have one thing in common: Guitars. Norwegian quartet Wolves Like Us like them electrified and turned to eleven, dishing out kick-ass rock, while Icelandic quintet Of Monsters & Men prefer them acoustic and turned no louder than, say, five, as they spoil us with their excellent acoustic folk.

Four bearded guys with stints in an impressive number of bands formed this earlier this year, because no one was playing the music they like – and so they became Wolves Like Us, doing rock the way it was cut a decade or so ago. Four high quality demos are streaming on MySpace and here’s the kick-ass track ‘Deathless’.

Of Monsters & Men (ISL)
From Reykjavik, Iceland, comes this quartet offering pleasing treats of acoustic folk fronted by the captivating vocal of Nanna Bryndís Hilmarsdóttir. Back in March Of Monsters & Men won the local talent competition Músíktilraunir (The Icelandic Music Experiment) and you can check out four live recordings and a demo on MySpace.

WHO DO YOU THINK EVERYBODY SHOULD HEAR?
Although we spend a lot of time out there, we can’t claim to have heard every band on MySpace, so please feel free to recommend bands – Scandinavian, of course – you think everybody deserve to hear. We do reserve the right not to feature your band(s), but we guarantee to check them out. Drop links to: spacescan (a) allscandinavian.com
