Robyn: Body Talk Pt. 1
Categories: Albums • Pop • Sweden

This year Swedish electropop diva Robyn plans on putting out three albums that will feature works with Snoop Dogg, Diplo and Röyksopp. The last two have contributed to this first, titled ‘Body Talk Pt. 1’, on which she also continues the collaboration with producer and songwriter Klas Åhlund from her 2005 hit album ‘Robyn’, who’s had his creative hands on all songs except the dark Röyksopp album highlight ‘None Of Dem’ and single ‘Dancing On My Own’.
It all begins, however, with awesome, minimalistic electro-house in ‘Don’t Fucking Tell Me What To Do’, which is succeeded by the brilliant club banger ‘n pop combo ‘Fembot’. ‘Dancing On My Own’, co-written by Patrik Berger, is an obvious single and a very well-written pop song, but it doesn’t really do it for me. Like ‘Cry When You Get Older’, which is the weakest on the album along with piano/strings ballad ‘Hang With Me’.
Fortunately the excellent, Diplo/Åhlund effort ‘Dancehall Queen’ (the style is in the title) and aforementioned Röyksopp peak quickly follows, before Robyn & Co bring the proceedings to a gentle halt with ‘Hang With Me’ and the surprising closer ‘Jag Vet En Dejlig Rosa’, a Swedish traditional stripped down to its bare essentials and delivered with great feel.
With a running time of just over 30 minutes it really is impressive how much musical ground Robyn and her collaborators cover, and equally so that at least half of the eight songs on ‘Body Talk Pt. 1’ are (hit) singles. According to plan her next album will be released after summer and I’m thinking it’s safe to set expectations to high.
