Mimas: The Worries
Categories: Albums • Denmark • Rock

They call it “death indie”, Danish quartet Mimas, and that’s probably as good a description as any. Whatever you call it, this is grandiose indie/post-rock for the patient, growing with each dedicated spin of ‘The Worries’. However, should patience not be one of your stronger virtues there’s a chance you’ll find yourself quite bored.
Released in the UK in October, Denmark in November and the rest of Europe to follow in February 2009, ‘The Worries’ follow their self-released acclaimed debut EP, ‘Hands Will Carry’ (2005), and sports nine delicately monumental songs, clocking in at more than 50 minutes in total. See where I’m getting at with the whole patience thing?
Although there are easy decipherable pop-elements here and there, plus often amusing, ironic lyrics contrasting the gravity of the music, the magnitude of Mimas is in their electrifying crescendos of noise, shouting choirs and soaring guitars alternated effortlessly with the completely opposite (plus trumpets), always tied together by their excellent vocal work. In the right frame of mind this is just a tremendous experience!
