Alcoholic Faith Mission: Let This Be The Last Night We Care

Categories: AlbumsAlternativeDenmark

Words: Peter Krogholm

It took Alcoholic Faith Mission three years to finish and release their grand sophomore effort ‘421 Wythe Avenue’ (2009), which earned them solid critical acclaim and label deals in Japan and USA, but less than a year to release this followup, their third album. Which really is quite impressive in itself, but even more so that it’s better than its predecessor.

On ‘Let This Be The Last Night We Care’ they continue their Broken Social Scene/Arcade Fire et al. style of alternative rock with well-placed electronic spice, although the latter is turned down a notch or three and this time offering greater variation in tempo and sound with upbeat should-be hits like ‘My Eyes To See’ and ‘Got Love? Got Shellfish!’. Elsewhere ‘Sobriety Up And Left’ offer aching AFM melancholy, while ‘Education’ and ‘Honeydrip’ sits nicely somewhere in between.

Again with a highlight in the contrasting, yet beautifully matched vocals of Kristine Permild and leading man Thorben Seierø Jensen, ‘Let This Be The Last Night We Care’ is excellent. It really is that simple. So go join the Alcoholic Faith Mission. Now.
