From the Inbox: Magenta Skycode, Erik Hassle, The Alexandria Quartet, Vomit Supreme, FM Belfast and more

It’s almost all about music videos in this edition of From the Inbox. We do, however, kick off with tracks by Sweden’s Boy Omega and Another Nation’s National Anthem plus Finland’s Saine, the first offering nothing less than a free EP, before we let images from Magenta Skycode, Vomit Supreme, Erik Hassle, FM Belfast and others flicker before your eyes. Hope you like it…
BOY OMEGA (SE) (Photo)
When the From the Inbox feature was launched, it was intended as a way to get around more of the copious amounts of music hitting the AS inbox – and hereby deal with an increasingly bad conscience. It still is, and here’s one that’s been lying around forever: Swedish, alternative popster Boy Omega aka Martin Henrik Gustafsson and his ‘Follow The Herd EP’ sporting six songs including covers of Kiss, The Strugglers and a very not-Christmassy version of ‘Silent Night’, two instrumentals and an awesome title track (in the player), that is also found on his latest album ‘The Ghost That Broke In Half’. Stream and download the full EP on itsatrap.com – it’s free.
CYMBIDIUM SUMMER 2010 COLLECTION (SF)
July 14 Finnish label Cymbidium Records digitally released the compilation ‘Summer 2010 Collection’ with ten tracks from the electronic side of town by among others Finnish artists Saine, Palms On Hips, Calmen and Katyayani along with Mentz from the Netherlands and Kaneel from France. Here’s Saine’s opening track ‘Sleep Mode’, but you can stream – and buy – the full compilation on cymbidium.fi.
ANOTHER NATION’S NATIONAL ANTHEM (SE)
Also a longtime friend of the inbox is Stockholm quartet Another Nation’s National Anthem (A.N.N.A.), who released their debut single ‘Save Them From Sorrow’ back in May, its three grandiose, indie-, post- and alt-rockin’ songs making solid promises for the debut EP slated for release later this year. Here’s the title track:
MAGENTA SKYCODE (SF)
On their MySpace Magenta Skycode simply state “New Cat/New Video/New Song” in a blog entry from August 12. Which turns out to be a remarkably accurate description as this feel-good video for ‘The Simple Pleasures’, directed by Teemu Varonen, unfold.
THE ALEXANDRIA QUARTET (NO)
The Alexandria Quartet are gearing up to release their sophomore effort ‘Light Drawings’ in Norway this fall with an international release to follow towards the end of the year or early 2011. Right now they got two singles out and about, ‘Standing In The Way Of Love’ and ‘Rip-Off Jesus’, the latter accompanied by this DIY video showing the powerful effect listening to the quartet can have on people.
TERMINAL (DK)
Danish rock trio Terminal are enjoying quite a bit of MTV success in the US with the video for their grand single ‘Chasing Light’ off their debut album ‘Bring Forth The Few’. Here it is – a classic “band playing” video directed by Julius Telmer.
ERIK HASSLE (SE)
In the beginning of 2010 Erik Hassle released his debut album ‘Pieces’ internationally (out in Sweden the year before as ‘Hassle’), and recently the pop singer made this video – created by himself – for brand new song ‘Taken (Still In My Blood)’ available on the www.
FM BELFAST (ISL)
They actually already did a video for ‘Underwear’ back in 2008, but Icelandic electropop outfit FM Belfast have apparently deemed it necessary with another, this one directed by DANIELS (Daniel Scheinert and Dan Kwan). Check it out – and then have a look at the old one.
BLACK LIGHT WHITE LIGHT (DK)
Back in May Danish rockers Black Light White Light were part of a From the Inbox feature with their great track ‘Higher Than Low’, taken from their ‘Directors Cut EP’ debut, and last month they released this “football game gone wrong” video for said song, directed by Kristoffer Kiørboe.
THE SONNETS (SE)
The other day we featured Swedish quintet The Sonnets’ debut ‘Western Harbour Blue’, a sunny soul pop album heavy on the 1980s. There are a few videos out, too, one being this “homage to good clothes and good music” made in collaboration with online fashion store Très Bien Shop and featuring the cool Montauk remix of lead single ‘Sebastian Said’.
VOMIT SUPREME (DK)
Back in June Vomit Supreme released first single ‘Dancing’ off their forthcoming debut album ‘Taste’, and about a month ago they did a session in Bad Coffee Studios, Copenhagen, resulting in three live videos which you can check out on MySpace. Here’s the one for ‘Molly Song’.
