Bang Gang: Ghosts From The Past
Categories: Albums • Iceland • Pop

Fun fact: Icelandic pop act Bang Gang actually began as a surf-band in the 1990s, releasing single ‘Listen Baby’ before Henrik Baldvin Bjornsson left to start Singapore Sling. The other founding half, Bardi Johannsson, kept going but took the music in a whole new direction, making Bang Gang the vessel for his amazing – and not at all surf-like – pop.
As the title of opening track and first single ‘The World Is Gray’ suggests, Johannsson isn’t the happiest of campers around. Pain is an undeniable principle of life, but hope is always lurking in the background. Also undeniable is his knack for making bad love, bad trips and angst beautifully moving, not least due to his subtle vocal complimented perfectly by female ditto.
‘Ghosts From The Past’ is the producer-fashion designer-director-musician-singer-composer’s third album as Bang Gang, following acclaimed debut ‘You’ (1999) and ‘Something Wrong’ (2003), and it is majestically melancholic pop with surprising contrasts in rocking duo ‘I Know You Sleep’ and ‘Black Parade’ and the crescendo of near-instrumental ‘Lost In Wonderland’. Which is exactly how you will feel when listening to this album.
