VETO: There’s A Beat In All Machines
Categories: Albums • Denmark • Rock

Expectations to Danish electrorockers VETO’s full length debut were massive following 2005s acclaimed EP, ‘I Will Not Listen’, but where so many artists fail to honor such a hype, this Aarhus five-piece more than lived up to theirs on ‘There’s A Beat In All Machines’. With an incredibly tight blend of rock and electronica and singer Troels Abrahamsen’s indisputable star quality combined with the fact that they signed with Danish hip hop label Tabu Records they immediately stood out from the crowd and they even landed a slot on SxSW before the album was released.
VETO wowed fans and pundits alike with their complex and yet seemingly simple and immediately catchy compositions that gives props to greats like Radiohead, The Cure and Muse while being very much their own. 11 songs long, ‘There’s A Beat In All Machines’ moves from the passive-aggressive first single and biggest hit, ‘You Are A Knife’, through the bleak vision of an inevitable break-up in ‘From A To B’ and ending with the near genius ‘It’s A Test (Part I + II)’, all the way sporting Troels Abrahamsen’s talent for interpreting his own lyrics about the darker sides of life and love (you actually believe him). A talent that has positioned him as one of Denmark’s most important male singers right now.
With ‘There’s A Beat In All Machines’ VETO have done what most bands can only dream of achieving: They’ve made an album with the potential to never get boring – which also shows in the slow but very steady sale of the album which is now close to rewarding VETO with a Gold Record for 15.000 copies sold more than two years after its release.
