One Weekly Gun – Music taking a stand

I want to share a really neat project with you. One Weekly Gun’s a music blog posting one original song every week, commenting on current world events. Songs are written, recorded, produced and uploaded in just three hours by Danish musician Peter Fritzen, who’s paid musical attention to the American election, Magic Mushrooms and Paris Hilton among others since January this year.
The three-hour dogma can’t help but set its limitations artistically and some songs are definitely better than others, but as Fritzen states: This is not art, this is pure momentum! And the idea is great. In my opinion more musicians – right or left – should use the attention they get to voice concerns of our world.
But what do you think? Should musicians take political stands or just stick to boy-girl-stuff?
Before I leave you to explore One Weekly Gun, where all songs can be downloaded for free, here’s an example of Fritzen’s work. Not entirely unlike Danish musical maverick Frederik Thaae aka A Kid Hereafter, ‘Pro-Fight’ is Peter Fritzen’s personal experience of Sarah Palin and the speech she gave when announced vice presidential candidate.
‘Pro-Fight’ lyrics:
It’s funnier to be a vice president
in a republican government
than to have a teenage girl who is pregnant
singin’ ooh-la-di-lah
singin’ ooh-la-di-lah
We’re gonna rid the streets of every fag
And send every healthy boy away to Iraq
This is how we will relieve this country’s burdened back
singin’ ooh-la-di-lah
singin’ ooh-la-di-lah
Confess to the choir
Confess to the status quo
Repeat the mantra the resides within
The blockbuster devil is a big black sin
Confess to the maker
Confess every microscope
The truth lies in babies that have not yet been born
The net beneath Darwin is about to be torn
The rural Alaska has got it right
Pro-choice is substituted with a Pro-fight
In school you will learn about intelligent design
And that kingdom comes from a bold decline
Confess to the choir
Confess to the status quo
Repeat the mantra the resides within
The blockbuster devil is a big black sin
Confess to the maker
Confess every microscope
The truth lies in babies that have not yet been born
The net beneath Darwin is about to be torn
