MF/MB/: Folded
Categories: Albums • Rock • Sweden

Back in June 2009 Malmö/Stockholm based quintet MFMB, now MF/MB/, had me both excited and a bit confused with their eponymous six song debut, put out through the French label La Bulle Sonore Records, which turned out to be two EP’s instead (according to their MySpace now a six song EP). That’s the confusion part. The excitement was brought about by their grand synthrock, and while the first has cleared, the latter is still very much the case with their proper album debut ‘Folded’, released on the cool Malmö label Adrian Recordings.
Musically not much has changed. Their sound and feel is still rooted in krautrock and post-punk, sharing characteristics with label and city mates This Is Head, and the album also contains reworked versions of (still) should-be hit ‘Tune On’, ‘Heat Like This’ and ‘The Fine Detail’, the latter a bit of a Bowie moment which has grown since then, from the aforementioned EP (or EP’s). Elsewhere groovy ‘1000 Times’ is melancholy for the dance floor, ‘A Beautiful Sigh’ mesmerizes in all its monotony, and ‘The Big Machine’ sounds like a desperate and quite angry Tears For Fears.
With ‘Folded’ MF/MB/ have committed a great debut, and I dig it. A lot.

Congratulations to the new album and the video. I liked it a lot. Nice read about you in DN. Seems like a new start of something bigger.

I can’t remember last time I was as excited about a song as I am over “Seconds Away” – it is outstanding! The entire album rocks, I only wish it contained more songs. Last Friday’s gig at Debaser seemed like it was over in 10 minutes, albeit explosive minutes.
