For A Minor Reflection: Höldum Í Átt Að Óreiðu
Categories: Albums • Iceland • Rock

In 2007 Icelandic instrumental post-rockers For A Minor Reflection released their self-produced debut ‘Reistu þig Við, Sólin Er Komin Á Loft…’ (“Rise, the sun’s up…”), which earned them quite a bit of attention around the world. A landmark concert at Iceland Airwaves the same year turned in to a two-week tour of North America and a support gig for Sigur Rós on their European tour the following. A pretty good start on the back of a DIY album recorded in a weekend, and now they have their sophomore effort ‘Höldum Í Átt Að Óreiðu’ (“Heading Towards Chaos”) out and about.
This time around they called in producer Scott Hackwith (The Ramones among others) to handle the recordings, which took place over four weeks in Sigur Rós’ Sundlaugin Studio and L.A, and it has really done wonders for the four guys’ output. I didn’t care that much for the debut to be honest, especially due to the lackluster production which did their majestic ambitions no justice at all, but here you have sound really leaving the speakers. Another change for the better is in their compositions, which have become more, shorter and more varied, the piano/string based ‘Dansi Dans’ and ‘Tómarúm’ grand examples.
‘Höldum Í Átt Að Óreiðu’ is a big step forward, and considering that they’re all still in the very early twenties the potential is enormous. On top For A Minor Reflection is an awesome power live, and if you ever get the chance – and like to loose yourself in roaring highs and beautiful lows, of course – I urge you to check them out. Until then I leave you with the great ‘Dansi Dans’, which you can download for free via foraminorreflection.com.
