The Malpractice: Tectonics
Categories: Albums • Denmark • Rock

He was the driving force in now defunct I Am Bones, handles guitar and screaming in Beta Satan, and now Johannes Gammelby has released his debut under the moniker The Malpractice. ‘Tectonics’ it’s titled, because Gammelby is in to geology and because he found it a suitable metaphor for the album and much of what’s going on throughout the eleven songs. Which is rather apt in the “stuff clashes and forms new stuff” way.
Because the album is an alternative rock melting pot of influences ranging from Nine Inch Nails industrial over Foo Fighters rock to Destiny’s Child R&B and pop (‘Bootylicious’ was in fact inspiration for first single ‘Oh, The Irony’), kept in tight reigns by producer Kenneth N. Andersen and dexterously administered by Gammelby, who proves himself a more than solid songwriter.
Delivered with help from Beta Satan members Klaus ”Q” Hedegaard Nielsen (drums, percussion) and aforementioned Kenneth N. Andersen (guitar, synth, percussion), ‘Tectonics’ is aggressive yet inviting, challenging yet catchy, and really a remarkable beginning for Johannes Gammelby as The Malpractice.
