SpaceScan10 #46: Dad Rocks! and Pettersson & Fredriksson
Categories: Alternative • Features • Iceland • Norway

The two acts selected for this week’s SpaceScan both work with and in folk, although with quite different takes on the genre. First up is Icelandic troubadour Snævar Njáll Albertsson aka Dad Rocks!, who has taken the alternative route, and he’s followed by the Swedish duo Pettersson & Fredriksson, who are rooted in tradition. Hope you will enjoy it…

Back in April Dad Rocks! aka singer/guitarist/trumpet-player in the Danish band Mimas, Snævar Njáll Albertsson, released his debut EP titled ‘Digital Age’, and on Monday, November 22, the alternative folk troubadour joins forces with Florida’s Heister on a vinyl 7” split released by Kanel Records. Albertsson has the ‘Digital Age’ EP available through Bandcamp, and you should definitely check it out. It’s really quite good…

Pettersson & Fredriksson (SE)
I don’t normally feature traditional folk, in part because I know just less than nothing about it, in part because I’m very rarely caught up in it. It’s different with Swedish duo Pettersson & Fredriksson, both named Daniel, and a good part of their self-released third album ‘Sotali’, which is streaming in full (and of course available for purchase) on Bandcamp, and offers a movingly melancholic soundtrack to fall and winter.

WHO DO YOU THINK EVERYBODY SHOULD HEAR?
Although we spend a lot of time out there, we can’t claim to have heard every band on MySpace, so please feel free to recommend bands – Scandinavian, of course – you think everybody deserve to hear. We do reserve the right not to feature your band(s), but we guarantee to check them out. Drop links to: spacescan (a) allscandinavian.com
