Treefight For Sunlight: A Collection Of Vibrations For Your Skull
Categories: Albums • Denmark • Rock

I featured the quartet Treefight For Sunlight and their excellent first single ‘Facing The Sun’ in a SpaceScan back in June, and early October they released their aptly titled debut full length ‘A Collection Of Vibrations For Your Skull’ in Denmark on the new label Tambourhinoceros run by Oh No Ono members Kristoffer Rom and Aske Zidore, the latter also handling the production of this album.
Brian Wilson and The Beach Boys, Beatles, Genesis and more recently MGMT serve as some references for the four guys’ catchy and psychedelic pop with lyrics that quite often contrast the sunny disposition of the music, carried by their great flair for melody and delightfully intricate vocal harmonies, that share some characteristics with compatriots Oh No Ono in all their generally high pitched glory.
Musically the album is little less than 35 minutes of upbeat pop-rock – highlights here singles ‘Facing The Sun’ and ‘What Became Of You And I’ plus ‘You And The New World’ – and dreamy psych-pop counters with symphonic ‘The Universe Is A Woman’, ‘Riddles And Rhymes’ (the flute and piano intro sounding like a theme song from a 60s TV-show) and dark album closer ‘Time Stretcher’ as peaks.
‘A Collection Of Vibrations For Your Skull’ really is a magnificent debut and has already garnered international attention. In November Treefight For Sunlight signed with legendary UK label Bella Union, who will release the album internationally on February 14 with first single ‘What Became Of You And I’ (in the player) out this December 13.
