4 Guys From The Future: Under The New Morning Sun
Categories: Albums • Alternative • Denmark

Comprising members of among others art pop outfit Lily Electric and soul duo The Asteroids Galaxy Tour, 4 Guys From The Future – aka Mads Brinch, Bjarke Porsmose, Jarno Varsted and Rasmus Valldorf – are another new band on the young label Tambourhinoceros’ roster and their debut album ‘Under The New Morning Sun’ another solid addition to Danish alternative rock as it unfolds these years.
On it gutsy, challenging experiments seamlessly blend with awesome pop, creating a constantly surprising universe with references found in among others Beatles, The Flaming Lips, Blur and 60s psychedelia, which for the better part is an absolute joy to explore. There are a few tracks doing pretty much nothing for me personally, most notably instrumentals ‘Cutting Your Heart Out’ and album closing ‘The World Falls Into A Deep Sleep’, but that said they do fit the uncompromising nature of the album.
A nature which is defined from the get-go with the mesmerizing 8 minute title track starting out as a simple pop tune only to erupt in a massive, psychedelic and noisy crescendo. ‘Don’t Help Me Up’ is as radio friendly as it comes here without abandoning the experimentation, ‘I’ll Take You Away’ is nouveau Beatles with a very Pink Floyd-ish touch to the guitar solo, while first single ‘Life Is Up To You’ embodies the quartet’s ability to be catchy while offering slight mind-fucks all around.
‘Under The New Morning Sun’ is simply put a great debut album, and I’m really looking forward to follow 4 Guys From The Future in the… er, future (sorry).
