Gezus Crystler: Gezus Crystler
Categories: Albums • Denmark • Rock

Merry Christmas! Depending on where you are tradition decide whether you will get presents today or tomorrow (if at all), but everybody following ALL SCANDINAVIAN will get one now. Well, again it depends, this time on your musical preferences, because Danish duo Gezus Crystler’s debut album is not easy to unwrap.
With a background in bands like Powersolo/Kim And The Cinders (Kim Kix) and Death To Frank Ziyanak/The Wong Boys (Frank Ziyanak) plus the videos circulating the web and on their MySpace it doesn’t come as a massive surprise that this is out there, but as Gezus Crystler the duo have managed to go ga-ga on a whole new level.
Rumours said that it would consist of one long track, but that’s turned out to be not all true. Four parts make up the album which, however sketch-like it can come across, contain quite a few really good bits that I wish would make sense recommending as downloads below. But given the layout of the album it’s pretty much all or nothing.
All won’t be too bad a choice, especially when you hit songs like dark ‘Sound Crazy’ and ‘Tie The Robe, Mutha’ playing below. It’s all distorted guitars – often angular and slightly out of tune as in low-key americana track ‘I, Say’s Nothing’ – and a drum machine adding both hard-hitting electro beats (‘Thursday Is Jazz Day’) and a very naïve feeling to the universe (‘French Quarters’, which, by the way, is catchier than an STD).
‘Gezus Crystler’ is equally haunting, trashy and French and at the very least a really entertaining contribution to Kim Kix and Frank Ziyanak’s already impressive musical output. And you can just tell how much fun they’ve had making it.
