The VUF Compilation #4: The Beat Is Now Long Forgotten
Categories: Albums • Denmark • Electronica

What better way to begin a new musical year than with an electronica freebie? Danish label VUF Records apparently couldn’t think of one and therefore they have made the fourth in their renowned series of free compilations available for download today, January 1.
Assuming that a good part of you have chosen to kick off 2009 with a severe hangover it consists mainly of downbeat chill-out tracks, compiled by label owner Jonas Højgaard and Sarah Lützen and featuring established artists like SpejderRobot, Boom Clap Bachelors and Mikkel Metal along with new talents like Eloquent, Sebastian Lind and Birdie Bird Makes Little Norm Cry, who’s contribution has named the compilation.
What have amazed me with every VUF Compilation is the amount of talent on the Danish electronica scene these years. This is no different. Just check out the excellent tracks by aforementioned Sebastian Lind (sweet love-pop with a discrete crackling beat in ‘Stay’) and Eloquent aka 17 year old August Fenger’s beautifully fluctuating ‘Freckles’.
Elsewhere Bokal finds inspiration in water for his mood enhancing minimalist dub track ‘Vand’, SpejderRobot turns Hannah Schneider’s brilliant alternative pop gem ‘This Is Goodbye’ into groovy dub (playing below) before Nabo ends the tour with one of the more experimenting contributions with his eccentric ‘Keys’.
The VUF Compilation #4 is a strong testament to the state of the Danish electronica scene, and almost best of all it’s FREE.
