It’s Friday and it’s time for the first SpaceScan in 2009. With new years comes new features and the SpaceScan now features music for your listening pleasure. The first presents Swedish Marching Band, a duo dishing out grand indiepop, and Danish americana trio The State, The Market & The DJ, who’s proving that less indeed can be more.

Now here’s a band whose name doesn’t do the musical output justice. The Swedish duo is in fact about as far from creating marching band music you can get without falling of the edge of the earth. Instead Erik Sunbring and Jacob Lind triumph with sparkling indiepop with excellent harmonies and drops of psychedelia adding pleasingly unexpected twists and turns. Already on their way to stardom in the USA with their debut full length ‘Spark Large’ (August 2008) the rest of the world should follow. E.g. via this LINK.

The State, The Market & The DJ (DK)
This trio released their debut ‘New Speak’ back in October to impressive reviews and with just the six songs available on the MySpace to judge by all compliments seem to be in order. Comprised of Erwin Thomas, who released his album ‘Songs From My Apartment’ in 2005, Eske Nørrelykke and Anders Holst, both rooted in jazz, they deliver delicate americana that does so much with very little. Quite simply compelling!
