Stupid White Men: It’s A Fine Day To Kill Someone Nice
Categories: Albums • Denmark • Rock

They used to dabble in grunge under the moniker Aya, but in 2007 winds of change began blowing around the Danish outfit, and the following two years were spent chasing a new sound and expression. In 2009 the first tracks for their debut were recorded and last week the Copenhagen quartet’s debut album, ‘It’s A Fine Day To Kill Someone Nice’, was finally released.
As you might have noticed (at least if you’ve been around this blog before) this review looks different from our older ones, as we too have felt a need for a little change. So – quite appropriately – here’s the first of the new reviews presenting a new(-ish) band: Stupid White Men.
Who are they?
Allan Nordquist (vocal, guitars, dobro, banjo), Lars Westh (bass, keys, backing vocals), Christian Meldgaard (drums, percussion, backing vocals) and Anders Abel (percussion, keys, backing vocals, trash).
How’s the album?
Pretty damn good, actually. Stupid White Men blend rock and country into a cool mix of banjos, dobros, pathos filled lyrics, dark emotions and an old school americana feeling. Johnny Cash gone indie if you like. With a dash of David Gray-esque phrasing. And some other stuff… It’s really hard to describe, because most of all Stupid White Men sounds distinctly as themselves, which is a rare quality in music.
Check them out if you like:
Kings Of Leon, Ryan Adams, wearing cowboy hats for no apparent reason, sipping Buds and staring in to the sunset.
