Sin Fang: Summer Echoes
Categories: Albums • Alternative • Iceland

He’s a productive bugger Sindri Már Sigfússon, today aka Sin Fang (he’s dropped the Bous since the release of his 2009 solo-debut ‘Clangour’), having released four albums in as many years, two with acclaimed alternative indie-folk outfit Seabear and now two solo efforts with a fifth – also a Sin Fang album – apparently already finished.
Who are they?
Where ‘Clangour’ was entirely the work of Sindri Már Sigfússon, playing all instruments and handling production, this time around he’s recruited friends from múm, Amiina and Seabear to record ‘Summer Echoes’.
How’s the album?
In most ways it continues the style from the solo-debut, extravagantly orchestrating acoustic indie-folk with layer upon layer of bleeping and crackling electronics, spheric psychedelia, noise and even a touch of hip hop (‘Sing From Dream’). Back in the days I said about ‘Clangour’, that Sigfússon’s crowning achievement was striking a “brilliant balance between elaborate noise and beautiful pop.” ‘Summer Echoes’ is even better balanced, taking the experimental noise down a notch which results in an overall more straightforward, organic and inviting album without abandoning the rewarding elements of surprise.
