By way of a minor, collective cerebral haemorrhage this week’s SpaceScan have turned in to a belated salute to the thriving and diverse Gothenburg scene with both bands hailing from said Swedish city. Unintentionally, but hey: They’re both great so get ready wrap your ears around goth industrial quartet Sexydeath and Morrissey soul mates Skansros.

Usually we are oh so up-to-date in our weekly SpaceScan (or at least we try to be). The featured bands are just releasing albums, putting out new tracks on MySpace or there are other good reasons to mention them. Well, Sexydeath – formed in Gothenburg in 1999, now residing in Stockholm – released their debut album ‘Unbruja’ in September last year and the tracks on their MySpace have been there for months, but we have only just discovered them now. With that confession out of the way, we suggest – almost insist – you check the band out. The Swedes play a really nifty blend of goth and industrial, heavy on the keyboards as well as the guitars. Skansros (SE)
Continuing the not-so-up-to-date theme here’s another new discovery and yet another of those bands who will only tell little about themselves – and this six-piece are not even on MySpace!?! Instead they have a website where you can do and read absolutely nothing… Oh well, it’s very easy to be controversial in pop music because no one ever is, to quote the great Morrissey, who also happens to be an influential part of Skansros’ existence since their beginning as The Smiths cover band West Ham Boys Club and their consequent switch to homemade, very personal indiepop in their native tongue. Skansros are currently finishing their debut full length, due out later this year, after releasing a 3-song EP in October from which you can hear the ace ‘Drømmen Om Amerika’ (“The dream of America”) below – and download for free here.
