Back in the days when ALL SCANDINAVIAN was young, Faroese singer, storyteller, performer and actor Budam was part of the very first SpaceScan on the back of his 2008 debut album ‘Stories of Angels, Devils, Lovers and Murderers’, and this January he was finally ready to unleash this great sophomore effort simply titled ‘Man’.

Who are they?
Apart from Budam (aka Búi Dam), who’s written and co-produced the album, the cast of ‘Man’ count among others Teitur-collaborator Tróndur Bogason (producer, arranger), ORKA main man Jens L. Thomsen (producer, bass), and vocal trio Ólavur Jákupsson (Gestir, Steso), Ása Vrá (Steso) and Eivør Pallsdóttir.

How’s the album?
Tapping in to Nick Cave while shaking off some of the most obvious Tom Waits cabaret stylings of his debut album without abandoning his trademark theatricality, ‘Man’ is an abstract reflection on human life’s grand themes God, love, death and nature – and by the look of the lyrics a fairly hefty existential struggle, as he declares that “God is great” (‘The Bicycle’) only to say the same God is “fucking with our heads” (‘God Is Fucking With Our Heads’) before finally proclaiming his lover “his religion” (‘You Are My Religion’). As it is in life, death gets the final word with the excellent line – and title of the last song – “All you dream you get to keep”, and Budam gets my praise for an excellent album that keeps growing with each listen.
