SpaceScan11 #19: Djerv and Vicky
Categories: Features • Iceland • Metal • Norway • Rock

Our SpaceScan selected two this Friday in May share two characteristics: Dashes of metal and female vocals. First up is trio Djerv, which was formed in 2010 by former members of Trelldom, Animal Alpha and Stonegard, and they are followed by pop-punk-metal quintet Vicky, who are working on the followup to 2008s debut ‘Pull Hard’. Enjoy both and the weekend…
Djerv (NO) (Photo)
Djerv is the Norwegian word for burly and is quite fitting for the trio from Oslo. Former members of Trelldom, Animal Alpha and Stonegard formed the band in 2010, released an EP last summer, and this June they are ready with an eponymous debut album. I have had a chance to listen to it and it is really something to look forward to. The music is hard rock with dashes of metal, and I am equally a little bit in love with and a little bit afraid of the female vocalist Agnete Kjølsrud. (TB)

Vicky (ISL)
Four girls and a drummer boy make up Icelandic quintet Vicky, named after Little Britain character Vicky Pollard, and they’re currently recording their followup to 2008s successful debut, ‘Pull Hard’, slated for release later this year. If they haven’t changed their ways, expect a loud, aggressive pop-punk-metal hybrid with fiery female vocals. Here’s ‘Blizzard’ from the debut, streaming in full on gogoyoko.com, and then there’s just waiting for new sounds to be done. (PK)
