SpaceScan11 #22: Marionette and Samaris

Categories: ElectronicaFeaturesIcelandMetalSweden

Words:

This Friday’s SpaceScan offers two rather different acts, as we give you Swedish hardcore sextet Marionette, who will release their third album later this year, and Icelandic minimal electropop trio Samaris, who will release their first single this summer. Have a read and a listen, visit their websites for more, and then have a great weekend.

Marionette (SE) (Photo)
Marionette is a Gothenburg-based metal sextet that play some hardass, but somewhat melodic hardcore – which is quite worthy of ten minutes of your time if you are into that sort of thing. The band will release their yet untitled third album later this year and in October/November they will be touring Europe with ALL SCANDINAVIAN favorites Dead By April. Moshing, banging and general mayhem should be guaranteed. (TB)

Samaris (ISL)
This Icelandic trio have gotten off to a rather good start. Just this January Jófríður Ákadóttir (vocal), Þórður Kári Steinþórsson (programming) and Áslaug Rún Magnúsdóttir (clarinet) started writing songs together as Samaris and in April they won the band battle competition The Icelandic Music Experiments. It’s still work in progress – the three tracks they have out on SoundCloud are all demos – but it’s nonetheless quite promising tastes of their minimal electropop, which is planned to result in a single release this summer. WHO DO YOU THINK EVERYBODY SHOULD HEAR?
Although we spend a lot of time out there, we can’t claim to have heard every band on the www, so please feel free to recommend bands – Scandinavian, of course – you think everybody deserve to hear. We do reserve the right not to feature your band(s), but we guarantee to check them out. Drop links to: spacescan (a) allscandinavian.com

  1. Icelandic music really starts to become a genre on its own. Slightly outerworldly, a little ethereal, vaguely folky, combining electronics and real instruments, and almost no link to anglosaxon rock music…. Samaris is another promising name from Volcano Island. Thanks for sharing this.

  2. You’re welcome – and thanks for commenting, Swanski…
