SpaceScan11 #26: Eline Thorp and Meadows End
Categories: Features • Metal • Norway • Pop • Sweden

The two acts in this week’s SpaceScan couldn’t be more different if they tried. Really, the only common denominator is music (oh, and piano)… Anyway, here goes with Swedish melodic metal six-piece Meadows End, who after more than a decade have released their first album, and Norwegian singer Eline Thorp, who’ve recently inked a record deal and will release her debut next year. Have a solid weekend…

She began writing songs in 2009, but only count songs produced from early 2010 and onwards herself. She’s 17 and working on her first album (she inked a deal with Beyond Records earlier this month), which is expected to be released next year. And then Eline Thorp is a singer with a remarkable, beautiful voice, serving up melancholy with ache and break backed only by herself on piano and bass. Here’s ‘Good Night Waltz’, which you can download along with two more songs on Thorp’s NRK Urørt profile (“Last Ned” is download). (PK)

Meadows End (SE)
They’ve been around for more than a decade but just released their first full length album, ‘Ode to Quietus’ last year. The Swedes dabble in melodic – at times even operatic – metal and blend brutal guitar riffs, some bad ass growling by frontman Johan “The Brute” Brandberg, keyboards, huge choirs and even violins. Which actually works really, really well. While Meadows End isn’t the first band with that sound they are certainly good at it and is someone to look out for in the future. (TB)
