mylittlepony: Making Marks
Categories: Albums • Norway • Pop

This followup to 2008s debut full length ‘Think Too Much’ was supposed to have been released last year, but a hard-drive crash meant that Norwegian indiepop quintet mylittlepony had to record the whole shebang again, and thus ‘Making Marks’ was delayed till this year. But better late than never and according to main man Ola Innset the album in fact turned out even better the second time around.
Who are they?
Jørgen Nordby, Nina Bø, Simen Herning, Marie Sneve Martinussen and frontman ‘n songwriter Ola Innset. On top several guest musicians add horns, strings and backing vocals, while Sjur Lyseid has produced the album.
How’s the album?
Immensely charming in two words. With love, both good and bad, as the predominant theme (although a midlife crisis is heard in ‘I Volunteer’) Ola Innset and the rest of mylittlepony excel in indiepop seasoned with both a very Scandinavian irony and a ditto melancholy, keeping it from ending up too cute. Standout tracks are sunny and yet bittersweet 60s pop salute to Oslo, ‘Capital Of Norway’, first single ‘Hard To Be Good’ (in the player), folksy ‘Fragments Of An Island’ and americana gem ‘The Grass That’s Still Wet’. Good stuff indeed!
