Today we celebrate the tenth SpaceScan of 2009 with old school rock’n’roll’n’blues quintet Bullet Train Blast (DK) and Scandinavian shoegaze melancholy by way of Finnish outfit Scarlet Youth, who state the ultra foxy actress Scarlet Johansson as one of their influences (and who can blame them?). They both got fresh releases out, so if you like what you hear pay them a visit and give them your support.

Their name kinda gives it away: Scarlet Youth is influenced by Scarlet Johansson – and who won’t be inspired a woman that sexy? Not that there’s much sex in the Finnish quintet’s music. Rather an infinite shoegaze sadness showered in Kent-like Scandinavian melancholy and fragile pop sensibility. Scarlet Youth have just released their six song debut EP ‘Breaking The Patterns’ (four songs on MySpace) on their own label, Homesick Music, and are now working on material for a full length album, which – with the EP in mind – could be something to look forward to. Bullet Train Blast (DK)
We are suckers for great band names at ALL SCANDINAVIAN and Bullet Train Blast is a immensely cool name. Bullets! Trains! Blasts! We have no idea what it means but it sure sounds bad ass. As does the music these lads from Aarhus, Denmark, have just released on their debut album ‘Second Chance’ (out tomorrow), an album with a nice blend of blues, old school rock’n’roll and just a pinch of metal. Granted, naysayers might call it cock-rock, but it works for us. Check out the track ‘Run Baby Run’ with a nice 80′s-ish guitar riff and a quirky yet awfully catchy chorus. (TB)
