Green Concorde: Down The Corridor To The Exit Through The Gates Out Into Safety
Categories: Albums • Denmark • Rock

When a band present such an uncompromising and coherent sound and feel as Danish post-punk quartet Green Concorde did on their debut, ‘Ten Cities’ (2007), it can sometimes be difficult to see, how they’re to move on come time for a second effort. Will they continue on course or make a (distinct) move away from what was?
With these guys it’s both. There has been an evident change musically on ‘Down The Corridor To The Exit Through The Gates Out Into Safety’ as their maniacal expression has been turned down quite a few notches, most significantly proved in frontman Morten Espersen Dam’s vocal work. A change for the better adding much needed nuance to the Green Concorde universe, although at the same time showing his limitations as a singer.
The overall look and feel is still Editors/Interpol’esque post-punk, riddled with bleak big city angst (that would be the “on course” part) and they got that one pegged. And because they’ve toned everything down it comes across even more believable – or authentic if you like. The world is a dark place, but as the album title suggests there’s hope.
As there’s always been for Green Concorde. ‘Ten Cities’ made promises, ‘Down The Corridor…’ keeps them and adds to the tally.
